Is 100 Too Much?

The hunt for 100 consecutive wins by the University of Connecticut (UConn) women’s basketball team is getting closer to the finish line. The UCONN team has reached a point where they seem “unstoppable,” as they have won 99 season games in a row. The Huskies will be going for their 100th tonight (February 13, 2017). This elusive dynasty hasn’t lost a game since November 17, 2014; they lost in an overtime thriller to the number 6 ranked Stanford. (more…)

NBA Talk

With the fifth week of NBA season upon us, to many NBA fans, this season seems, “a little messed up.” An elaboration that from an anonymous student was, “With the trades this offseason and many all stars with new teams, there are tons of teams that were really well last year that is really bad this year.” As an avid NBA fan and die-hard Atlanta Hawks fan, I can in a way agree with the statement by said, student. If you decide to read on, this article will touch on how this season there is quite a bit of confusion and also what quite a few fans hope will happen this season. (more…)

NCAA Football Playoffs Predictions

Alabama, Clemson, Washington, and Ohio State: these four teams are the top 4 on the NCAA football rankings going into week 14. Like many years, Alabama Roll Tide is the favorite to win the NCAA football championship. Meanwhile, from what I have watched this season, and read many articles, I have alternate predictions. Before those predictions are stated, the facts must be stated.

Alabama is the only perfect record team with a 12-0 record. Clemson, who is right behind the Roll Tide with an 11-1 record, but in the 3rd spot. Washington, who is 4th, behind a great season, their record is a blistering 11-1 as well. The Ohio State University Buckeyes are in the 2nd sport with an outstanding record of 11-1 as well.   (more…)

One for the Ages

The last year that the Chicago cubs won a Major League baseball world series was in 1908. The last time that the cubs went to the World series was in 1945. The Cubs have won two World series pennants, and 17 national league pennants. The Cubs had one of the biggest rebuilding periods; they are also the only team that has had to wait 108 years before returning to the world series. (more…)

A Tribute to Jose Fernandez

Jose Fernandez was a 24-year-old Miami Marlins Pitcher in the MLB. He was recently killed in a boating accident off the coast of Miami Beach. Fernandez was a Cuban baseball player who had to leave his home country at the age of 15 to achieve his dream.

A little after 3:15 on Sunday, September 25, 2016, Coast Guard officials found his 30-foot boat flipped upside down on the north end of a rocky, near the entrance of the Miami Harbor. Along with Fernandez, two other bodies were discovered, one on the rocks and the other two were in the water. In regards to the privacy of the other two men, their names are being held until relatives are notified.

Fernandez was a big part of the Miami Marlins and was beloved by his whole team and most MLB fans. He had outstanding stats which show when you see his 2.86 ERA, 182.1 innings pitched, and 13 home runs throughout the 2016 season.

I feel that Fernandez deserves a real tribute. He was a legendary pitcher in the making. On the pitcher’s mound on the Marlins field, a memorial was put together. I personally liked Fernandez, even though I don’t watch baseball much, but he had to be one of the best all-around baseball players of this era.
