With the fifth week of NBA season upon us, to many NBA fans, this season seems, “a little messed up.” An elaboration that from an anonymous student was, “With the trades this offseason and many all stars with new teams, there are tons of teams that were really well last year that is really bad this year.” As an avid NBA fan and die-hard Atlanta Hawks fan, I can in a way agree with the statement by said, student. If you decide to read on, this article will touch on how this season there is quite a bit of confusion and also what quite a few fans hope will happen this season.
During the offseason, Kevin Durant, Dwyane Wade, Derrick Rose, and Dwight Howard made huge splashes by leaving their now previous team and made a huge splash by signing with new teams. Kevin Durant, current small forward for the Golden State Warriors, was with the Oklahoma City Thunder last year, made probably the biggest splash this year. Fan of the Thunder was completely shook, and the whole town was torn to pieces by his move, so torn to where they started to burn his jersey.
Quite a few more big splashes were made, a huge one by Dwyane Wade, now shooting guard for the Chicago Bulls, formerly with the Miami Heat ever since he was drafted in 2003. He also made the Heat fanbase very upset, but they still love him as was showcased when the Bulls took on the Heat in Miami. Derrick Rose, followed by his friend and teammate, Joakim Noah are now both with the New York Knicks, they both used to play for the Bulls, but they made a move to a struggling organization to help provide some wins.
Now, this following move made not just myself happy but many other happy; Dwight Howard, former Center for the Houston Rockets, made a move back home. Howard signed with the Atlanta Hawks to fill the spot that Al Horford left open when he left for the Boston Celtics. Howard decided to come home and to be on the same team as his good friend Paul Millsap.
On to the regular season, the top teams were as expected, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors. These two teams have had their ups and downs, but there are two teams that look really good compared to the past few years; they are the Los Angeles Lakers, and the New York Knicks.
The Lakers signed a new coach this offseason, Luke Walton, after his signing the Lakers have beaten many powerhouse teams, and they also seem to have much better team chemistry. The Knicks, all the way on the other of the country, are controlling many teams with their star 4 players, Kristaps Porzingis, Derrick Rose, Carmelo Anthony, and Joakim Noah. The Knicks have had a lot of great highlights, and they also seem to be more “in sync” with each other and coach Derek Fisher.
The rest of the season is very hard to depict as like stated, so far this season is just too messed up and pretty crazy, but from what sports analysts at ESPN have predicted, the Golden State Warriors have the biggest chance of winning the championship followed by the Toronto Raptors.
